The liquid layout allows the layout to fit across most of these different types of devices. It’s a mix of html, PHP/ASP and others but the most important aspect is CSS, Cascading Style Sheets. The CSS liquid layouts allow the web designers more control of how the pages are displayed. They can actually decide and define different elements on the page such as headers and links.

The CSS liquid layout creates an auto detection that allows the website to change and fit the screen according to the device whether a phone, laptop, or desktop. The liquid layout allows the website to scroll and is not fixed like some of the other style of layouts. The liquid layout allows much more flexibility for the designer. They can add things and take things out much easier, especially in adding additional features above the fold.

Some of the disadvantages of the CSS liquid layout is somewhat susceptible to breaking at resolutions of 800x600 or other nonconventional resolutions. This creates quite a hassle for the designers. Although most people are turning to use 1024 x 768 and the 800 x 600 is possibly going to be obsolete in the near future.

When creating a web site you must just remember the most important part is gaining viewers and providing the necessary information that is necessary for the web site. CSS provides the ability to change the website according to the needs of the providers. The content is always going to change and the liquid layout with CSS makes it very accessible to make the changes for the benefits of the viewers whether they be on a mobile device, desktop, or laptop.
